to listen to our show today with Duane and I discussing the new voting procedures being implemented this election. While ghosts and goblins will be roaming the streets this weekend, there are some very scarey departures from the norm in our voting practices such as touch screen & provisional voting, Hava (what are these?) and more. Are you concerned? We are.

View Stolen Honor Full-Length Video

Alessandra Stanley in the New York Times (Oct. 21) An Outpouring of Pain, Channeled Via Politics said about this film...''Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal,'' the highly contested anti-Kerry documentary, should not be shown by the Sinclair Broadcast Group. It should be shown in its entirety on all the networks, cable stations and on public television.

Because the Sinclair folks did a flip-flop on showing former Vietnam POWs film "Stolen Honor - Wounds That Never Heal" in its entirety on their television networks, the POWs have made it available on the internet for viewing. Here is the link, and please pass it on to others.

Your Choice: Laura Bush or Teresa Heintz-Kerry

How important is the First Lady? Well, how important is a wife? How important is grace and wisdom? How important is your attitude towards people?

Can I just say it like it is?

When I wrote my article on "America Looks at the Wives" I received alot of feedback, pro and con, when I said, "Did you catch Bill O'Reilly's interview with Laura Bush last night? How about Teresa Heintz-Kerry's response to Bush supporters chanting "4 more years"? Her response - "4 more years of hell!" America is evaluating the choices, not just for President, or Vice President, but for First Lady also. One democrat interviewed on the news said, "Can we have John Kerry for President and Laura Bush for First Lady?" That says a bunch. Laura has class and was very gracious about Teresa's remarks. Quite a contrast between the two. I'm afraid John Kerry will continue to have to make excuses for his wife's responses. You can only say 'she's just outspoken' so many times."

On Tuesday when I heard Teresa Heintz-Kerry's answer in response to the question, if she would be different from Mrs. Bush as First Lady, "Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good, but I don't know that she's ever had a real job -- I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things," I thought about one of the responses I got to the article mentioned above. Drew wrote: "I think you missed some things in your article. Let me fill you in. Teresa Heinz is fluent in five languages. Teresa Heinz is very smart. Laura Bush is a house wife. Laura Bush isn't in the public eye because she doesn't have anything to say. "

Wow! some perspectives and attitudes are very revealing, aren't they? Do we even need to say what the implications of these two statements are?

Sure, I know Teresa apologized saying she didn't remember Laura Bush had been a librarian and school teacher. hmmmmm. But all that aside, is this the kind of thing a potential first lady says? No. But, once again Laura Bush was very gracious saying, "It didn't matter to me. It didn't hurt my feelings. It was perfectly all right that she apologized. She didn't have to apologize. I know how tough it is. And actually I know those trick questions."

For the record, what is a lady? Let's look at the dictionary definition:(Encarta/Dictionary.com) Refined woman; a woman who behaves very politely and with dignity; a well-mannered and considerate woman with high standards of proper behavior; a woman regarded as virtuous; a woman who is the head of a household; lady is normally used as a parallel to gentleman to emphasize norms expected in polite society or in situations requiring courtesies.

So, I ask you, would a lady say "scum-bags" et al, publically, and especially when her husband is running for President? And what do you do with statements like the one John Kerry made himself during the 3rd debate in answer to the question, "All three of us are surrounded by very strong women. We're all married to strong women. Each of us have two daughters that make us very proud...what is the most important thing you've learned from these strong women?" Kerry said, "...my daughters and my wife are people who just are filled with that sense of what's right, what's wrong. They also kick me around."

Following the President's remarks, which basically praised Laura, saying he thought he was the luckiest man on earth, Kerry also said, "Well, I guess the President and you and I are three examples of lucky people who married up. And some would say maybe me more so than others." hmmmmm. What does this say about Kerry?

First Ladies go on diplomatic trips, host leaders and their wives from countries around the world. How important is it that they respect the First Lady? Or will they be gracious and say, "Oh, she's just outspoken?" Many nations already think America is arrogant.

Now, Laura Bush is more gracious than I am. She would never write an article like this...but it needs to be said. This is probably one of the most serious elections we've ever had.

Point to Ponder: Living with the "Dirt" - Calling a spot a spot

Ponder: To give thorough consideration, to think carefully, reflect deeply, cerebrate

We have very light beige carpets in our home and every spot shows. So after the carpets are vacuumed, we get out our handy "spot remover" to take care of any spots that remain. It got me thinking this week of other carpets I have seen that, well, haven't received the "spot remover" treatment...and how easy it is to live with the spots. You just get use to seeing them, like you do the dings in your car or the weeds in your lawn, or worse.

There are a couple of obvious applications here. One has to do with our personal lives - how we don't take care of the spots in our thinking, attitudes, heart. Anger, lies, unforgiveness spots et al. We can get use to living with them, and pretty soon not even care that they are there. The longer they're there, however, the harder they are to remove. Some day we'll just get "new carpets."

The other application has to do with the state of nations, and specifically, our nation. America's carpet is definitely spotted. Several places are just plain dirty. Some members of this "house" don't notice the spots. Some don't care that the spots are there, the looser, live-and-let-live types. Others sit around and think or talk about how they need to be removed. And some are so blind to the spots they ask "is" there a spot? Then there are those who see the spots and try to remove them. It can be a monumental job to not only clean the carpets, but to stay on top of all the new spots.

Our government in this analogy is like parents who set up the "house rules" that everyone must abide by, with consequences for those who don't. But the "parents" can be persuaded by the latest "how-to" experts who, like Dr. Spock of years ago, advocate throwing away the rules and letting the "children", or even the neighbor's children, decide whether the spots are "okay" or not to live with. Or whether abiding by the "rules" or not determines character.

I just interviewed John O'Neill, author of "Unfit for Command", of the Swift Boat Vets for Truth. I asked him some hard questions, including, "What would you say to those who say YOU are the ones lying?" I think everyone needs to hear what he said. The show airs on Friday 10/8.

Friends, we have to have our eyes wide open. We have to call a spot a spot. We all live in this "house" together, and it will be interesting to see what the upcoming election reveals about us.

Weapons of Mass Destruction

When you hear or read about weapons of mass destruction what do you think of? Bombs and such? Or do you also think about biological and chemical agents? There is a difference between biological warfare and bioterrorism according to my guest, Dr. Ketan Desai, author of "Germs of War" (next Monday's show). Bioterrorism would be attacks such as the anthrax scares we had following 9/11. Biological or chemical agents used to engender terror. Biological warfare would be the use of releasing smallpox or deadly strains of flu via any number of vehicles, ie bombs, tanks, etc. for mass killings, such as Saddam Hussein used. There are things everyone can do to protect themselves and their family from biological warfare which are outlined on the following links, including Dr. Desai's list which will be posted on our website on Monday. The Boy Scouts have it right...be prepared! and pray we never have to use what we've prepared. Here's a couple links, there are more on our Follow the Facts page at www.changingworldviews.com:
