Point to Ponder - Taking a Stand

TIANANMEN SQUARE - 1989
Remember this photograph of one man standing in front of a row of tanks in Tiananmen Square (take a good look) that caught the world's attention? His act of peaceful resistance made all the headlines after he slipped back into the crowd. What started as a small protest grew to over one million people, when the Chinese government decided to bring in the tanks killing hundreds of people, including students and children. That was when this anonymous man took his courageous stand. This picture begs the question: How much of a (peaceful) stand am I willing to take for the cause of liberty?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Getting Micro-Chipped

Madras High School in Madras, Oregon is one of the most recent government institutions to allow students to buy their lunch with the swipe of their hand. Former U.S. Tommy Thompson the former Governor of Wisconsin and Health and Human Services Secretary during Bush’s first term, is now on the board of directors of Applied Digital, the company that owns VeriChip, just got 'chipped'. And after thirty years on the force, Chief of Police Jack Schmidig of Bergen County, New Jersey, got the VeriChip as part of Applied Digital Solution's strategy to use high profile/community leaders to promote acceptance of their 'chip' by the general public.

The list goes on with recent examples of human micro-chip acceptance and implantation. However, concerns about abuse by privacy-watch groups and the technology industry point to a host of ethical, moral, and legal questions that "must be answered before widespread use of implantable micro-chips can happen." Many Christians point to the Book of Revelation in the Bible that tells of a time when man won't be able to buy or sell without getting a 'mark' in their hand or forehead.

Just as the stem-cell research debate has moved front and center in the public arena look to hearing more and more about the ethics of 'getting chipped' in the future. My show today with author Terry Cook addresses this issue. I encourage you to listen and let me know what you think.

Canadian Border II - the Tunnel

I received quite a bit of disagreeing mail to my article on Canada becoming a 'safe haven' for terrorist operatives right at our northern border. Then it was reported that a tunnel was found at the U.S.-Canada border that smugglers used to get drugs across. Police said the tunnel is about 360 feet long and while used for smuggling marijuana it also posed a threat to national security. Apparently, it is one of the most sophisticated tunnels ever found. Thirty-three tunnels have been found along the U.S.-Mexican border in California and Arizona. With the bombings in London Britain is talking about border control, France is talking about border control, ie closing their borders...is America talking about closing our borders? hmmmm.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Roberts, Rove and the Ridiculous!

Quotes of reactions to President Bush's nomination of John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court can be found at SF Gate, the San Francisco Chronicle's online news source. NOW, the National Organization for Women have come out against him, which shouldn't surprise anyone, calling him an 'extremist', but Planned Parenthood is more reserved saying they will wait to hear what comes out of the confirmation hearings. Which by the way are set for August 29, unless Democrats stall, in which case they will begin September 6th. I discuss this with Marc Morano, Rush Limbaugh's former 'Man in Washington'today on the show, plus the latest on Rove and the ridiculous propagandizing video clips at the Lincoln Memorial and other national monuments. You can still hear it at our Broadcast Archives.

Picture Worth a Thousand Words

Hollywood celebs urged by ad in Variety to drop PETA (People for the ethical Treatment for Animals) because of 62 felony counts brought against two of PETA's employees. What for? In case you didn't hear...for the dumping of dogs in dumpsters. PETA has a horrible percentage rate of getting animals homes. Worse than the SPCA. In this case, they had too many that they couldn't find homes for, so...they had to 'dispose' of them.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven" Book - Fans and Critics

Rick Warren's book, The Purpose Driven Life, has sold tens of millions of copies and over 16,000 attend his church, but some critics have gone public with claims that he is not the real deal, as far as Christianity is concerned. Claims that Warren is presenting a watered-down Christianity, to his being a pantheist and practically everything in between, has found their way into writings on the internet, on the radio and even a book. Today's show, with Author & cult expert Richard Abanes regarding his book, addressing these claims is well worth the listen. We started getting email responses as soon as it began to be aired.

But not all agree with Warren's critics. Remember Ashley Smith of Atlanta, who captured our nation's attention when she was held hostage and ended up talking her captor, Brian Nichols, into turning himself in after reading to him from The Purpose Driven Life book? I think she is one grateful young lady for that book! You might be interested to know that since her experience she has had offers to write her own book, for a movie, and even marriage proposals from the exposure!

The Big Story Tonight: President Bush Nominates John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court

Out of 15 recommendations, 11 put in the hat so to speak, and 5 seriously considered, President Bush selected Judge John G. Roberts for his choice for Justice of the Supreme Court to replace Sandra Day O'Conner. The news coverage is significant so I won't go into all the details here except to say, conservatives are happy, he won't be the same swing vote as Sandra Day O'Conner, and he's already gone through the selection process and confirmed in 2001 for his appointment to the second highest court in the land, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington D.C. President Bush and conservatives are hopeful he will receive the same for this all important appointment, which he could remain in for 30-40 years. We will be interviewing Marc Morano of CNS news tomorrow for any inside Washington information he has. This will be a topic of discussion in the days and hopefully only a few weeks ahead. So more later.

Are you happy with President Bush's choice?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Teachers Debate Teaching Evolution

Check out MSNBC's emphasis on the future of evolution. Both our show today with Billy Crone on Intelligent Design and our show on Wednesday with Orlean Koehle just back from the NEA convention are timely. Teachers at the recent NEA convention debated on how to teach creationism 'without stifling creative thinking.'

As reported by Ben Feller for MSNBC "Every time Lisa Marroquin teaches biological evolution, she knows some students will show up ready to talk creationism, a religious doctrine of how life came to be." Marroquin said she tells her students that "they must learn it (evolution) even if they don’t like it, because 'they’ve got to live in the real world.'

There is a growing challenge, due in great part to the 'Intelligent Design' movement, to teaching evolution in school without teaching creationism, in local communities and state legislatures, but not without reaction from those who fear teaching creationism will erode 'real' science. Funny thing, Darwinism is a theory.

Point to Ponder - What Would Jesus Blog?

Stacy Harp of Mind and Media wrote a piece with a title that in itself speaks...What would Jesus blog? If Jesus had been born in our day and was carrying out His purpose in our 21st century, would He blog? And if so, what would He blog? What would his blog be named? For that matter, would He have a website? Would He agree to be interviewed, for instance, on the Larry King show or FOX News? Would He talk about the issues of the day, and if so, which ones? And how would he answer the question Larry King seems to ask all the religious leaders he has on the show, "Is there only one way to get to heaven?"

What do you think?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! "Therapeutically Incorrect"

In my closing thoughts on today's show I talked about how the American Psychiatric Association came to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from their DSM years ago. Dr. Spitzer, an influential member of the APA and one who encouraged the removal, wrote in "Therapeutically Incorrect" about how NARTH President Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D., had provided him with a list of ex-gays who were willing to be interviewed regarding a survey he was conducting on the possibility of change in sexual orientation. After his interviews with these and other clients he became convinced that change was possible. After publishing his findings in the "Archives of Sexual Behavior" in October of 2003 many of his colleagues were extremely unhappy with him, including the Dean of admissions at Columbia University who said it was a disgrace that a Columbia professor would do such a thing.

The major point I want to make is that a colleague, Dr. Berger, provides some background information on the real reason for the removal of homosexuality from the APA's DSM. "What most people are not aware of is that when a group from the American Psychiatric Association first proposed the removal of homosexuality from the DSM in 1973, it was very clearly laid out in the "protocol" that the move was purely in response to the designation of 'stigma' that those who identified themselves as homosexual claimed that they suffered as a consequence of 'homosexuality' being included as a psychiatric disorder. It was stated very clearly that the proposed removal was not intended to make any scientific statement about homosexuality. However, that distinction has become forgotten by the next generation, who now have come to believe - or have been 'programmed' to believe - that the APA was in fact making a scientific statement about the 'normality' of homosexuality - and by implication its irreversibilty."

What do you think about this? Let me know.

I cover more of Dr. Berger's statement on the show as well as lots of quotes for our In Their Own Words segment.

Palestinian Cleric Calls for Genocide

Shortly after the recent bombing by terrorists in London the Palestinian Authority's (PA) official television channel played a sermon by a cleric calling for the genocide of all non-Muslims. Suleiman Al-Satari said, "Annihilate the Infidels and the Polytheists! Your [Allah's] enemies are the enemies of the religion!" Media Watch. Is this what is meant by a peaceful religion when one of their religious leaders says things like, "Allah, disperse their gathering and break up their unity, and turn on them, the evil adversities. Allah, count them and kill them to the last one, and don't leave even one."

HOT OFF THE SHOW! 45,000 Soldiers Planned to Deport Jews if Necessary

A Gaza settler facing police

Things are heating up as the time draws near for the execution of the Disengagement Plan in Israel, that of deportioning 8,000 to 10,000 Jews from their homes and land in Gaza. Controls are being put in place, such as today when the Gaza Strip was closed to Israeli citizens who are not residents of the area, probably to keep sympathizers from moving in to add to the numbers of those resisting. Ultimately, if residents do not cooperate with the pull-out, plans for deploying 45,000 soliders for the operation are in place.

Imagine the effect on the soldiers who have to carry out orders to evacuate their fellow countrymen from their homes. Housing and Construction Minister Isaac Herzog believes the army will meet this challenge. This is unbelievable! Imagine for a moment if it were to happen in our country.

Just for the record: The Disengagement Plan is to take away more of the only 7% of the land the Israelis have left, as part of the 'Roadmap' - to create a Palestinian state. Prior to the Israelis winning the land in the 1967 war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, the West Bank belonged to Jordan, and 'Palestinian' did not exist. Arabs lived in Israel in peace with the Jews until Arafat, in partnership with the Arab world, decided to marshall the Arabs living there to 'take back their land', which was never their land.

This battle is not about establishing a Palestinian state, even though many 'Palestinians' believe and are willing to die for 'their land.' It's a front for the destruction of Israel.

Yeah for the California Catholic Conference - Death Bill Stopped!

California Legislators have decided to drop their 'death with dignity' bill for now which would have let terminally ill commit suicide through the use of lethal drugs, because of a lack of majority votes in the Assembly. Proponents say it failed because of 'steady religious and cultural currents.'

According to the L.A. Times, Assembly member Patty Berg of Eureka said, "A lot of people understand the issue; a lot of people don't, for the ones that don't, you need time to explain it, to walk them through it." Berg and Assemblyman Lloyd Levine of Van Nuys were the authors who couldn't pull the bill off because of the strong opposition they faced from the California Catholic Conference and disabled activists.

The Berg and Levine bill, AB 654, was designed after Oregon's law which was passed in 1994 by the voters. That law copies similar laws that have been adopted in some other countries which allow a person to get a lethal prescription after asking for it at least twice verbally and once in writing, and a patient must ingest the drugs without help.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Terrorists and our Canadian Border

Known terrorist operatives are finding a welcome mat at the door of our northern neighbor, Canada.

When asked why Canada is knowingly allowing terrorist suspects to live there by FOX News one expert said, "Because Canadians think they (Canadians) are nice people and that everyone who comes here is nice"! Another said, "They didn't bomb Canada on 9/ll, they bombed the United States." That is why Canadians feel safe housing them.

Now, there are several adjectives we can use for this 'worldview', the least of which is stupid! It would be like allowing a rapist who broke into your neighbor's house and raped their young daughters to rent a room from you. What is the matter with our world? Why don't we learn from history, even as recent as... last week in London? Or how about 9/11?

Of course, we know Canada is liberal and, as we've heard, some liberals think that all terrorists really need is a little therapy. But who really thinks therapy will cure evil? Not me. Is being a safe haven for terrorists, safe? Of course not!

The New Face of Gay Pride - Gay Culture

Gay Pride was celebrated once again in the streets of America last week as part of June's Gay Pride Month. Here in San Francisco, home of the largest gay parade, this year while some chose to express their political and sexual agenda visually, a different face was trying to be presented. Instead of the usual dominant 'in your face' activist, sexually explicit show, it was 'all about families.'

Many of the participants were dressed in regular clothes, pushing toddlers in strollers, or walking holding hands. The message found in books we've all heard about that are being used in kindergarten and other classrooms, such as 'Heather Has Two Mommies.," found expression as little kids carried signs saying, "I love both my mommies."

The parade did not lack in participation by elected officials. San Francisco Police Chief, Heather Fong, was not only at the parade, but marched in it with some of her officers. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Sgt. Lea Militello said, "This department really does mirror the community we serve...there are so many police departments in the country where officers can't be out of the closet."

The police department also had one of their own at the announcer's booth, who along with the other two announcers, was very affirming of the various parade participants, for instance, drawing attention to certain drag queens as 'she' and how much good they've done, and money they have raised, for the city. Several State Legislators were also in the parade, such as Carole Migden.
