Cindy Sheehan, Now a Writer on Liberal Blogsites

Ever since Cindy Sheehan's campout at Crawford, TX during the month of August, Michael Moore invited her to write on his blogsite. Other liberals joined the ranks, such as Arianna Huffington. What will it be next - a book?

Here's a sample of her writing:

Why I Was Smiling and Hurricane Rita
"I had a huge grin on my face when I was getting arrested yesterday. I have received a lot of flak for smiling. Apparently I am not supposed to smile, but I had some really good reasons for doing so. First of all, I was having fun. I was with a group of good-humored, cheerful, happy people. We were singing old protest songs and old Sunday school songs and clapping. I felt I had to be cheerful to set the tone. We didn't want any trouble or to do anything non-peaceful. Secondly, when I got arrested and the officers lifted me out I was afraid that America would see my underwear and that tickled me."
I think this speaks for itself.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Bill Clinton for First Lady

There is a new site, Bill For First Lady, not my taste, but... I know you'd be interested in hearing what author of "Hillary's Secret War," Richard Poe, had to say on my show today at Rightalk.com. If you miss it today it will re-air several times over the weekend. Check the re-play schedule here. On the show I also played audio clips of a recent speech Hillary gave on her positions on the economy, moral issues, etc., plus talked about the Soros/Clinton connection. It's only 2-1/2 years until the next Presidential election.

Abortion & the Black Community

I've received alot of email regarding my article on "Real Racism" and the show on 9/19/05 with Fr. Michael Reilly on the racist roots of Planned Parenthood. Some questioned whether I was white or black; one was definately racist against blacks - never ceases to amaze me! Others were not happy for the exposure of PP, and many expressed gratitude. One in particular from Greg of Daly City, California, also had this to say:

"And concerning abortion, shame, shame, shame on my Black brothers’ and sisters’ supporting the abortionist Democrats of today, unconditionally. For example, most recently, when the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, the Connor and Laci Law, was passed, there were the Congressional Black Caucus, so called Pastors like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP’s Quesi Mfume and others, virtually standing arm in arm in an unholy alliance with the abortionists, the Planned Parenthood, the National Organization of Women, the Democrat National Committee, all in opposition in the attempt to save innocent preborn babies lives, and their mothers, in the name of saving abortion."
I guess that boils the issue down the question...save babies or save abortion?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Are the Police an Occupying Army?

"The police are seen as an occupying army, unwanted, hated and feared." So writes Deb Lundgren for America's Voices on "Where Are You Joe Friday?"

There really are two basic worldviews about the police. One as Lundgren describes, and the other as was demonstrated in the aftermath of 9/11 when Americans expressed gratitude and honor for both the police and fire fighters of New York City.

My father was a policeman in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where I was born. It's a tough job. Yes, there are some crooked cops, which is one of the most grievous things a society has to deal with...the very ones empowered to make sure the law is upheld...break it. See a description of "A Perfect Cop" in my article on "Crooked and Straight Cops". There's little worse than a crooked cop.

But the majority of cops are, like our military troops, dedicated and true to the call and responsibilities of their role, which includes dealing with domestic terrorist groups, workplace violence, school shootings, looting, protesters, etc., on a regular basis. My guest on the show today, Officer Bob DeGeorge, who also served as a Special Agent with US Army Counter Intelligence during the Vietnam War, discribes what it's like being a cop in the age of rampant terrorism. If you didn't hear it, I think you'll like it.

Did You Know: Afghanistan Pledged Aid for Katrina Victims?

I had this in my file to post and missed doing so earlier in the month. But, it was so little reported by the MSM that just in case you didn't hear... the India Press reported: The U.S. Embassy announcement that Afghanistan pledged to give $100,000 to help victims of hurricane Katrina in the U.S. Ambassador Ronald Neumann said, "On behalf of the US embassy, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the people of Afghanistan. Their compassion and generosity bears testimony to the strength of the ties between our two peoples." This is great news no matter what anyone says.

As of Sept. 3rd the following governments pledged in addition to Afghanistan:
Australia, Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, China, Columbia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Greece, Guyana, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.

Former FEMA Director Testifies - His Quotes

Testifying before a congressional inquiry into the failings of the Katrina relief effort, Michael Brown, former head of FEMA had the following to say:
I didn't have a problem with the evacuations in Mississippi or Alabama. They were doing it. (Florida Governor) Jeb Bush had already ordered evacuations through the (Florida) Keys as Katrina was making its way through that area.
My mistake was in recognising that, for whatever reason that we might want to discuss later, but for whatever reason, (New Orleans) Mayor Nagin and (Louisiana) Governor Blanco were reticent to order a mandatory evacuation.
And if I, Mike Brown, as an individual could have done something to convince them that this was the big one, and they needed to order a mandatory evacuation, I would have done it...
My biggest mistake was not recognising by Saturday (two days before the storm hit) that Louisiana was dysfunctional.
I very strongly personally regret that I was unable to persuade Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin to sit down and get over differences and work together.
I just couldn't pull that off. I want this committee to know Fema pushed forward with everything it had, every team, every asset it had, in order to help what we saw as potentially catastrophic disaster.
I've overseen over 150 presidentially declared disasters. I know what I'm doing, and I think I do a pretty darn good job of it.
Fema doesn't evacuate communities. Fema does not do law enforcement. Fema does not do communications...
Many may be surprised to learn that, guess what, Fema doesn't own fire trucks. We don't own ambulances. We don't own search and rescue equipment
The people of Fema are being tired of being beat up, and they don't deserve it.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Anti-Military, Recruitment & Our Youth

So, anti-war protesters marched on Washington this weekend, Cindy Sheehan was arrested in front of the White House, and anti-war, anti-America, socialist blogsites posted, "We did it!" But...what did they do? Get alot of folks to show up. Get alot of media coverage. Get...uh... Let me see, get...

We know their stated goal is for our troops to come home...they didn't get that. So what goal was realized? To get alot of folks to show up...get alot of media coverage? What does "We did it!" mean? Of course, I know the agenda of the 'peace' movement is much more far-reaching, but for the face they are showing the public, I ask, what does "We did it!" mean?

I'm a strong advocate of grassroots action and more Americans taking their place in the public square, but the effects the anti-war movement can have on public opinion and the worldview of our youth do not produce results that keep us free from tyrants and terrorists.

I don't know what kind of throw-away papers you have in your town, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area we have practically every leftist group represented, with their propaganda readily available in newsprint at local, albeit mostly 'health food', stores.

One such paper, the North Bay Progressive, had a recent article entitled,
"Recruitment Woes" which talked about The People's Revolutionary Organization made up of high school students who want to stop the war by shutting down Army Recruiting offices, in this case, in my home town. The article reported, "Our goal is to push the army recruitiers out of our town...if the armed services don't have anyone to fight for them, they won't be able to have a war." For more Read Page Two.

My show today with Steve Beren, a former anti-war, socialist, protester/organizer who supports the war on terrorism today is pretty powerful. You can hear it online.

Bush Declares Today Gold Star Mothers' Day - But It's Not About Sheehan

While anti-war protesters march on Washington DC this weekend, President Bush declared today as Gold Star Mothers' Day and instructed that the U.S. flag be flown over government buildings. But before you think he did this because of Cindy Sheehan's anti-war pressure or for the Gold Star Mothers group she co-founded, you better read on.

Presidents have acknowledged Gold Star Mothers long before Sheehan's group was started last year. See 1994 example here. Blue Star Mothers have the original 1936 proclamation here.

President Bush has made this declaration every year of his administration. This year's reads in part: "On Gold Star Mother's Day, we recognize and pray for the devoted and patriotic mothers of these men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our liberty." Read it all here.

Actually, the official website of American Gold Star Mothers states as their motto: "Perpetrating the Noble Principles for Which They Fought and Died." And have on their homepage the following statement regarding Sheehan:
"Cindy Sheehan is currently in the news. She and her organization have no connection whatever with American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. We are a 501 C(3) organization and, as such, do not engage in political activities. We do support our troops. After all, they are our children."
Just for the record, in case anyone thinks it's because of Cindy Sheehan's efforts.

Point to Ponder: War Has Never Solved Anything...Except...

While the anti-war protesters march on Washington this weekend I found a t-shirt with the following, and thought it pretty much sums up why we have to sometimes go to war. As terrible as war is, some things are worse...

War has never solved anything
except for creating the United States
and for ending
slavery
Genocide
Fascism
Nazism
and a few other 'unplesant' institutions and regimes

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Gaza Update - Deporting Jews a Success?

Hamas poster of rifle and the Koran with the words: "With these two together the victory has been achieved."

Now that Jews have been completely evacuated from the Gaza Strip, and the celebrations of the Palestinians took place what's it like in Gaza now?

For one thing, it's been a month and the majority of the deported Jews have yet to receive the promised compensation from their government, and are still living in tent cities. This compensation is for their homes and property they had to leave behind, and need in order to re-establish their lives again. Not to mention jobs, businesses, etc. I talked about this in detail on today's show. This is not okay! Imagine if it were you.

Then, as I'm sure you read, the Palestinian authorities had trouble keeping 'their new borders' secure, with their own crossing back and forth into numbers into Egypt. And the latest, Hamas (muslims) killed at least 15 Palestinians (muslims) in a blast during a parade, when a truck carrying gunmen and home-made weapons blew up.

Will law and order and peace come to Gaza and Israel now fully occupied by Palestinians? I don't think so.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Humans Increasingly Considered Dispensable

We've been reporting for over two years now on the show about the insane radical environmentalist mentality many of the movement's leaders hold. Yesterday we aired our show with Paul Driessen regarding the white environmentalist idealogues' policies and actions that prevent the spraying of DDT in third world countries which would save millions of lives, half of them children, in Africa alone.

Today our l hr 'Best Of' on Rightalk.com was about the increasing discrimination against the Christian faith we are witnessing in America. (You can still hear it on the weekend re-airs).

But I thought I'd post a couple of the quotes I didn't get in either of these shows that take the cake, by the Princeton Professor and father of the Animal Rights Movement, Peter Singer who said...
"Christianity is our foe. If animal rights is to succeed, we must destroy the Judeo-Christian Religious tradition."
Singer also authored, "President of Good and Evil" about George W. Bush during the 2004 election, and is the same respected 'bioethicist who advocates it's okay to kill babies up to six months of age...outside the womb...if a deformity was missed while the mother was pregnant.

Now, if that doesn't make the hair stand up on the back of your neck I don't know what will! BTW, is anyone surprised that one of his books is entitled, "Writings on an Ethical Life"?

It gets pretty 'scarey', but then Halloween's coming up.

Friend Stuck in Houston Evacuation

While thousands are trying to get out of Houston because of the approaching Hurricane Rita, one of my husband's colleagues from the Houston area got through on her cell phone to give a first-hand account of the conditions. She and her family have been trying to get out of town since 9 pm last night and have been in bumper to bumper traffic now for over 18 hrs. They are running out of gas, but can't get off the freeway to get more because they won't be able to get back on as the ramps are closed. People have no where to go to the bathroom and have to... well guess.

FOX News just reported that the Texas state government is providing gasoline trucks at road stops, with 5 gallons available per car.

Take His Daughter for an Abortion? Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger - Would "Kill"

The former movie star, now Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, told the Sacramento Bee that he would "kill" anyone who took one of his minor daughters for an abortion without telling him.
"I have a daughter. I wouldn't want to have someone take my daughter to a hospital for an abortion or something and not tell me. I would kill him if they do that."
He later clarified his comments saying that he would not literally "kill" someone who took his daughter for an abortion.
"It will be the ultimate of being outraged about it and angry about it," Schwarzenegger said. "They call me when my daughter falls off the jungle gym in the school and they say, 'What do you want us to use? Can we put a Band-Aid on it? Do you want to come in? She's crying a little bit.'They call us about everything. I don't want them in that particular incident not to call us."
The 'Governator's' comments were in response to questions concerning one of the initiatives on California's upcoming November ballot that would require parents or guardians of minors to be notified of their intentions to have abortions 48 hours prior to the act.

Judge John Roberts Approved - 5 Jump Off the Political Cliff

Despite a last minute push by liberal activists Judge John Roberts was approved today by the Senate Judiciary Committee with a vote of 13-5. His nomination goes to the Senate for debate and that vote is expected to take place next Thursday.

Conservative groups were quick to send out press releases on today's approving vote praising Judge Roberts' love for the constitution. And Concerned Women of America's chief counsel said, "Only those willing to jump off a political cliff by joining hands with the die-hard abortion, gay rights and environmental groups can be expected to oppose this supremely qualified nominee."

The five Democrats who voted no were: Sens. Dianne Feinstein of California, Joseph Biden of Delaware, Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Charles Schumer of New York and Dick Durbin of Illinois.

Any surprises? Who will be the President's next choice?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Real Racism - Katrina and more...

While the mainstream media reported and debated claims of racism as the reason for the poor response in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the Anti-Defamation League reported proof of where real racism exists concerning this tradegy - hundreds of bigoted messages on white supremacist and anti-Semitic websites.

In their article, "Bigots Gloat over Hurricane Victims; Spew Racist and Anti-Semitic Hate Online" the ADL states: "Realizing that Louisiana and Mississippi have huge non-white populations, the bigots expressed hope that the hurricane would be deadly and "cleanse" the areas hit. Employing classical anti-Semitic canards, they claimed that Jews would seek to benefit from the devastation and that Jewish control of the media skewed the reporting of the hurricane."

Here are a few of the milder quotes of white supremacists hoping that the hurricane would be deadly:
• "It almost appears to me that the hand of gods [sic] is reaching down to smite the Southern Babylon."
• "I'm of the opinion that Mother Nature would be doing everybody a favor by cleansing the inner city."
• "It would be great if all the Whites could be evacuated and they could leave the groids/muds behind but we know that won't happen. The best we can hope for is that the best architecture stands and the casualties keep the n----r funeral homes busy."
• This New Orleans Hurricane Katrina is a classic example of true opportunistic n----r behavior (maybe that's why jews like n----s to much, they are both opportunistic parasites, the n----s are just ignorant version of jews)."
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director said, "While they may be small in number, their reach through the Internet is of great concern. Their messages of hate must be countered by the good words of good people."

Here's an example of even more far-reaching racism: Letting Africans die because of radial environmentalist white idealogues' activism. Paul Driessen, Senior Policy Advisor for the Congress of Racial Equality and former environmental policy advocate, talked with me recently about this issue on my radio show. He said what few are courageous and willing enough to talk about.

Racism must be eradicated wherever it is found!

Dr. Seuss Pro-Life?

I read Dr. Seuss to my kids when they were little, who didn't? Well, Dr. Seuss is still a favorite and has gained even more popularity in recent years with the movie, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas", and the debate over whether Dr. Seuss is Pro-Life. In the book, "Horton Hears a Who, Do You?" we find the words, "a person's a person no matter how small..." and here are a couple of excerpts from the "Birthday Book":

"If we didn't have birthdays, you wouldn't be you.
If you'd never been born, well then what would you do?
If you'd never been born, well then what would you be?
You might be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes.

Or worse than all that... Why, you might be a WASN'T!
A Wasn't has no fun at all. No, he doesn't.
A Wasn't just isn't. He just isn't present.
But you... You ARE YOU! And, now isn't that pleasant."

"If you'd never been born, then you might be an ISN'T!
An Isn't has no fun at all. No he disn't.
He never has birthdays, and that isn't pleasant.
You have to be born, or you don't get a present."

What do you think?

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Abortion & Racism

Is it Time for Roe vs. Wade to Go Away? So asked the San Francisco Chronicle shortly after the nomination of John Roberts for the Supreme Court, reporting that Democratic Party insiders are quietly wondering if abandoning abortion rights would win back white Catholics and evangelicals. David Brooks of the New York Times and Benjamin Wittes of the Washington Post both questioned if Roe vs. Wade's consequences haven't been too high a price to pay on "democracy, public discourse and even paradoxically, on abortion rights." Who would have ever thought we'd see the Left asking such questions?

For those who believe this issue is bigger than about winning elections, the real question should be, "What has been the cost to our culture, and in lives?" My show today with Fr. Michael Reilly on "Aborting Black America" talks about the racist roots of Planned Parenthood, which few are willing to talk about. (The Dawn Patrol has a great article on this) Some of what Fr. Reilly brought out is shocking!

By the way, did you know that Judge and Mrs. John Roberts were unable to conceive, but in their own words were, "blessed to be able to adobt a couple of adorable young kids"? Also, Mrs. Roberts served as Executive Vice President of the Washington DC organization, Feminists for Life.

Today: Day of Prayer for Katrina Victims / National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Today has been designated as a day of prayer which is being observed in places of worship across the nation as Americans remember Hurricane Katrina's victims. President George W. Bush attended the service at the national cathedral in Washington. He repeated his promise of help for those affected by the disaster in the Gulf Coast.

Today is also National POW/MIA Recognition Day. According to The National League of POW/MIA Families, ceremonies are held throughout the nation and around the world on military installations, ships at sea, state capitols, at schools, churches, national veteran and civic organizations, police and fire departments, fire stations, etc. The POW/MIA flag is flown, and the focus is to ensure that America remembers its responsibility to stand behind those who serve our nation.

To date 1,815 Americans are still missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, though over 450 were at sea/over water losses: Vietnam - 1,381; Laos - 372; Cambodia - 55; Peoples Republic of China territorial waters - 7. The National League of POW/MIA Families seeks the return of all US prisoners, the fullest possible accounting for those still missing and repatriation of all recoverable remains.

Day 4 - Judge Roberts: 'I Am Not an Ideologue'

"Look at my briefs and you'll conclude that's a person who respects the law...If you look at what I've done since I took the judicial oath, that should convince you that I am not an ideologue, and you and I agree that that's not the sort of person we want on the Supreme Court," he told the confirmation hearing committee today.

After three days of hearings Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-California, who voted to confirm Roberts for the U.S. Court of Appeals two years ago told Roberts, "I don't know what I'm going to do. My impression today is that you are a very cautious, very precise man ... and that concerns me more."

The vote on Judge Roberts for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is to take place next Thursday.

Day 3 - Judge Roberts: On the Pledge of Allegiance/Gay Rights

Shortly after a District Court Judge in California issued opinion on the Pledge of Allegiance Roberts was asked about banning reciting the Pledge in public schools because it contains the words "under God," to which Roberts said the Supreme Court has often been at odds over interpreting the Constitution's prohibition of government "endorsement" of religion. "That is an area in which I think the court can redouble its efforts to try to come to some consistency in its approach."

Sen. Charles Grassley asked Roberts, "Is there any room in constitutional interpretation for the judge's own values or beliefs?" To which he said, "No, I don't think there is. Sometimes it's hard to give meaning to a constitutional term in a particular case. But you don't look to your own values and beliefs. You look outside yourself to other sources. This is the basis for -- you know, judges wear black robes because it doesn't matter who they are as individuals. That's not going to shape their decision. It's their understanding of the law that will shape their decision."

When questioned about pro bono work he provided for homosexual groups in the landmark Romer v. Evans decision, Roberts said today that if approached first by the other side of the case he probably would have assisted them.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Restricting What Can Be Taught in Science Classes

A case against the University of California was filed for violating the constitutional rights of Christian high school graduates whose science textbooks are considered inadequate preparation for college. The complaint was filed on August 25, 2005 in a federal court in Los Angeles on behalf of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the Calvary Chapel Christian School in Murrieta, California, and a some of the students from the school. Why? because of the guidelines/policy set by the University of rejecting coursework that uses textbooks published by A Beka Books and Bob Jones University Press, describing them as "inconsistent with the viewpoints and knowledge generally accepted in the scientific community." The complaint states this policy infringes on the plaintiffs' rights to "freedom of speech, freedom from viewpoint discrimination, freedom of religion and association, freedom from arbitrary discretion, equal protection of the laws, and freedom from hostility toward religion."

Today's guest, Samuel Alibrando, author of "Nature Never Stops Talking" (see sidebar "Reading This Week") talks about why teaching ID (Intelligent Design) and Creationism is such a hot subject not just in education but in the science community today, and how nature itself clearly answers the debate.

Day 2 - Judge Roberts: Roe v. Wade - "Stare Decisis"

On Tuesday when questioned about abortion/Roe v. Wade Judge John Roberts said that the ruling was "settled as a precedent of the court". And that, "There's nothing in my personal views based on faith or other sources that would prevent me from applying the precedent of the court faithfully under the principles of stare decisis."

Pro-life groups such as Concerned Women for America are confident Roberts will uphold the Constitution, which founding document has no right to abortion in it. "Judge John Roberts has shown a deep respect for the Constitution and in his personal and professional life exhibits the primary lesson that comes from religion--honoring a higher authority above one's own desires, opinions or preference," Concerned Women for America's Wendy Wright said.

Democrats also questioned him about his writings on civil rights (the Voting Rights Act in particular) while he was a lawyer in Ronald Reagan's administration. To which Roberts said, "The constitutionality has been upheld, and I don't have any issue with that."

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Blue Star Moms Supporting our Troops

Did you know there is such a thing as organized anti-military recruitment organizations and efforts? WarResisters.org, for instance, has their own 'youth group' that holds 'opt-out' days. In other words, refuse to participate in presentations by Army or other military recruitment/information sessions at their school. One of the great things about America is that we are free to choose. But they take it too far by 'enlisting' soldiers back from Iraq to encourage kids not to enlist in the military... as part of their educational program.

There are also anti-war groups and folks who rebelliously advocate not paying their income taxes in protest to the war. How convenient! Well, I hope you tune in to my show today with Blue Star Mother, Central California President, Debbie Katsounakis, who stands in contrast to Cindy Sheehan and her Gold Star Moms' organization.

Day l - Judge Roberts: "Judges are not Politicians"

The first day of hearings for Judge John Roberts for confirmation as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court just concluded with his personal comments. Phrases such as: "judges are not politicians," "no one comes to a ballgame to watch the umpire," "I will call the rules, not pitch or bat" will be some of the talking points for the news media and senate and house spokespersons.

An understanding of the role of judges is essential for all Americans to have as we enter this season of multiple appointments to the Supreme Court by President George W. Bush. The two basic worldviews on this are as 1)Judge John Roberts and Senator Sessions laid out today and the opposing view of 2)liberals who see/want the constitution and thus decisions on cases to be 'elastic'...stretch beyond the law and or precedence.

Our show with Tom Ewing and Dr. Lowenthal discussing some of the aspects of constitutional law and practice, will air this Thursday on RIGHTalk.com beginning at 2:00 pm PST/5:00 EST.

Civil Rights leaders says Katrina Victims Resorting to Cannibalism. NOT!

Randall Robertson is just one who has claimed the poor initial response to Hurricane Katrina victims was because of racism. He also claims victims resorted to cannibalism. I DON'T THINK SO! No evidence of this claim has been found. This is ridiculous to suggest that the people of New Orleans would do such a thing! You can read what he said on Ariana Huffington's blogsite here. CK Rairden points out the truth about this lie and how we can expect to see others on this issue.

Govenor Schwarzenegger Vows to Veto California Same-Sex Bill

After the California State Assembly passed a bill changing California's marriage law to read "two persons" vs. "a man and a woman" on Tuesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed to veto it because the majority of Californians want the law to stay as is as evidenced by the overwelming majority vote on Prop 22 five years ago. The Governor says he believes the people should be the ones to decide on the issue.

September is National Preparedness Month

While the federal government (FEMA primarily) is being criticized for not movomg faster to provide relief to American's affected by Hurricane Katrina, the Department of Homeland Security announce September as "National Preparedness Month," the annual event, created in the wake of the 9-11, is for the purpose of encouraging Americans to provide for themselves in case of an emergency.

DHS chief Michael Chertoff, said "The devastation and tragic loss of life caused by Hurricane Katrina earlier this week reinforce the urgency of our coalition’s work. We urge all Americans to take some simple steps to prepare for emergencies including getting an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plan and learning more about how to respond to emergencies that could affect your area."

California Legislature Passes Same Sex Marriage Bill Today

California's State Assembly passed AB 849 today, a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, by a 41-35 vote. Last week the State Senate passed it, and now it's on to Governor Schwarzenegger, who is on record saying he would have no problem approving it if it is the will of the people of California. Clearly, with well over 60% of Californians voting for Prop 22 to keep marriage between one man and one woman, it is NOT the will of the people. We will have to see if the Governor honors that or chooses to go with the state legislature.

Karen England of the Capitol Resource Institute said today, "The legislature, by callously disregarding their constituents, are proving that they are more concerned about embracing a group of adults, identified only by their sexual behavior, than promoting healthy families for the sake of our children...The governor is the last hope of the people because the legislature has completely disregarded their votes to pass Prop 22 and also their urgent pleas which helped to defeat AB 19. The behavior of the California legislature today should be a clear signal to the voters that they must pass a constitutional amendment next year to protect marriage once and for all."

Troops arrived in numbers sufficient to evacuate refugees out of New Orleans on Saturday! But it will take weeks to restore basic electricity, etc. and months before refugees find homes and jobs, and years before New Orleans and other Gulf states are rebuilt.

Katrina Blows Sheehan, Gay Marriage Off the Screen

Hurricane Katrina has wiped out news coverage of what became the top news story for weeks, the Cindy Sheehan campout-at-Crawford anti-war vigil. And rightfully so. But that does not mean that her efforts are ending. Sheehan has left Crawford for the road on her 'Impeachment' bus to continue her anti-war cause, and vowing to spend every August in Crawford until the war in Iraq is ended.

Other movements are continuing their efforts as well despite the catastrophic disaster in America's gulf states. For instance, though minimally reported by the media, the pro-gay marriage movement won a victory in California this week when state senators approved AB 849 which would make same-sex marriage legal in California. The bill removes the phrase "a man and a woman" from the state's marriage laws replacing it with "two persons." The bill now goes to California's state Assembly, and if passed, on to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is on record as saying he would approve it if "that's what the people of California want".

I expect that as safety and order, and housing and infrastructure begin to be restored to the gulf region, press attention in some measure will return to Cindy Sheehan, who has been dubbed by liberals as 'the best thing that has happened to the anti-war effort." In the meantime watch for media bias in regards to the war in Iraq, especially as we approach September 11th, such as the following New York Times article written while everyone was focused on the approaching storm.
