Alito is Confirmed

Here's a brief summary on video via CBN of Judge Samuel Alito Voted 110th Supreme Court Justice. See Video Here.

Here's the script:

“The yeas are 58, the nays are 42. The President's nomination of Samuel A. Alito Jr. of New Jersey to be associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is confirmed."

Three months after being nominated, Judge Samuel Alito is now Justice Alito. It was a vote mainly along party lines: 54 of the 55 Republicans voted yes with moderate Republican Lincoln Chafee saying no.

Only four of 44 Democrats voted for Alito. Those four came from states that went for President Bush in the 2004 election: Tim Johnson - South Dakota; Robert Byrd - West Virginia; Kent Conrad - North Dakota; and Ben Nelson - Nebraska.

It was the most partisan vote since Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was approved by a 52-48 vote, something Republicans were quick to point out.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) said, "When you have a man who has the decency, the legal abilities and the capacities that Judge Alito has, treated this way, I think it's despicable."

Some Democrats, led by Massachusetts Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, tried to block Alito from getting on the bench, but came up a number of votes short. Republicans say that liberals are not looking at qualifications. They want judges who share their leftist ideology.

"This is not a good day for the future of the judiciary, in the sense that the left is dominating the Democratic Party’s responses, when it comes time to vote," said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

The conservative Alito will now replace the moderate Sandra Day O'Connor, something the Democrats had complained about all along.

"President Bush was not obligated to nominate a clone of Justice O'Connor, but this President has no mandate to move this Supreme Court and the American law in a radical rightward direction,” said Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid. That is precisely what replacing Justice O'Connor with Judge Alito will accomplish."

Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) said, “A chill wind blows. A chill wind that will snuff out the dying life of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's legacy."

Bush, No Brokeback Cowboy

Drudge Report carried this:

President Bush has so far skipped BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN -- the Hollywood hit about two homosexual cowboys. During a Q&A session at Kansas State University today, a student asked Bush: "I was just wanting to get your opinion on BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN if you'd seen it yet."The crowd laughed softly before the student said loudly: "You would love it! You should check it out.""I haven't seen it," Bush said flatly. "I'd be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven't seen the movie," he said to laughter. "I've heard about it."

Google Control in China

Bill Gates defended Google in China censorship when he argued that state censorship and software piracy should not prevent companies from doing business in China.

And Chinese bloggers debate Google.

If you want to can go to google/China to see what comes up when you type in Christian or angels, etc. For instance, Google-China turned up 10 hits on an image search for Jesus Christ. vs. the US version of Google which turns up 168,000 hits on the same exact search terms. 168,000 versus 1.

Pfc. Joshua Sparling - 'Death-Wish' didn't work

In December we reported on the death-wish card Pfc. Joshua Sparling received at Christmas while recovering from injuries at Walter Reed Army Hospital. We are happy to say, that he used the horrible incident to work for him while going through numerous surgeries, as the Port Huron Times Herald reports:

As Joshua Sparling lay in his hospital bed, just a couple of days after being wounded by a bomb in Iraq, he got a letter. The letter, addressed to "any soldier," wasn't meant to lift the spirits of someone just injured in battle. Instead, the letter, written in what looked like a child's handwriting, told Pfc. Sparling, 24, a paratrooper with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, to have a "great time dieing (sic) in the war." It ended with a postscript that said in big letters "DIE."

"I was shocked that (someone) would send a letter like that to anyone, period," said Joshua's father, Mike Sparling of Greenwood Township. "Let alone send it to someone returning from war."

But, Mike Sparling said his son, who had been in Iraq since August, used it as motivation to get better.

Joshua Sparling, a graduate of Yale High School, joined the Army this year. He was on special assignment in Ramadi, Iraq, when he was injured Nov. 18. He was on foot patrol when he saw men running out of a hole, and he and others in the unit gave chase. When Sparling was about 6 feet away from the hole, it blew up, sending him about 30 feet in the air, his father said.

Since then, he has been undergoing surgery nearly every other day at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., for a badly injured right leg.

On Wednesday, he had major surgery in which doctors tried to repair the leg with muscle, bone and tissue from his left leg, his father said. If the surgery doesn't work, Joshua may lose his leg.

The Political Teen has the audio links to Sean Hannity's radio interviews with Pfc. Sparling.

And Michelle Malkin lists other shows this real hero has been on here.

We love you, Joshua!

A Hamas Win - BAD for Israel

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei' and his cabinet, most of which are Fatah, announced their resignation following the January 25th Palestinian elections. With a voter turnout of 77% preliminary results gave Hamas a substantial victory, taking 76 of the 132 seats, and proving that pollsters were clearly off in their predictions which favored a Fatah majority.

Whose predictions of what the Hamas victory will mean in the future will be proven wrong?

Before the election Palestianian President, Mahmoud Abbas was "hoping Hamas will be tamed by mainstream politics, that the day-to-day duties of government -- such as running schools, hospitals and garbage collection -- will lead to pragmatic change within the group." But does a militant terrorist group change because it is elected?

According to the Israeli online news site Ynet, Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahhar continues to say that they will not change "a single word in their covenant" calling for the destruction of Israel, and that they would continue their path of 'resistance' in the West Bank even as they serve in the parliament. A-Zahhar said, "Hamas will not turn into a political party. Hamas plays in all fields. It plays in the field of resistance...The issue of weapons is related to the occupation. We will not receive dictations from Bush or anyone else…"

The Media Line reports President Bush's initial response to the election: "In his first reaction to the Palestinian elections, U.S. President George W. Bush told the Wall Street Journal that he would not negotiate with Hamas until the terror group renounces its desire to destroy Israel. A political party must support peace, and must act peacefully." And acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel will not negotiate with a Palestinian government that includes Hamas members.

In order to overcome their negative image, Hamas hired a savvy PR expert to give them a makeover, which raised the obvious question: "How much of it is for real, and how much of it is a cynical ploy to grab power, then revert to big-time terrorism? Given Hamas' history, extreme skepticism is in order." The terrorist organization paid a media consultant $180,000 "to persuade Europeans and Americans that it is not a group of religious fanatics who relish suicide bombings and hate Jews."

HOT OFF THE SHOW! 5 Teachers Refuse to Hang Gay Poster

Today's San Francisco Chronicle front-paged an article about 5 teachers from San Leandro High School in California who refused to hang posters designed by the school's Gay-Straight Alliance club in their classrooms, because "homosexuality violates their religious beliefs," according to the school's Principal Amy Furtado.

The district school board approved a policy last month requiring all district teachers to hang the posters in their classrooms as an effort "to comply with state laws requiring schools to ensure students' safety and curb discrimination and harassment."

The school's Art teacher, Tom Laughlin, is gay and helped students design the posters. Free Zone which is "an arts for social change collaborative project of GSA Network".

The S. F. Chronicle reports:

"Efforts to change the district's culture with a no-tolerance approach to teasing and harassment of gay students and employees began in 2003 with the hiring of (Superintendent Christine) Lim. For the past two years, teachers have been required to attend annual three-hour sessions addressing the problems faced by gay and lesbian students in school and how to deal with students' homophobic commments."
San Leandro High is taking this seriously. They have a "SLHS is a safe place to be who you are" banner posted on their website's homepage.

Hamas May Win Big in Palestinian Elections

While Canadians voted in a new Conservative leader today, the Palestinians are holding their first election since 1996 which many believe is key in the Palestinian push for statehood. Hamas candidates have entered the race and their popularity makes them running a close second to Fatah.

While campaigning, Hamas says a truce could be on the table, yet in one ad which was rebroadcast by CNN, Hamas shows footage of militants and states: "We will not rest as long as one inch of our holy land is in the hands of the Jews. Our flags will fly over the minarets of Jerusalem."

Hamas boycotted the last election in 1996 but could win one-third of the 132 seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Mahmoud Abbas, is "hoping Hamas will be tamed by mainstream politics, that the day-to-day duties of government -- such as running schools, hospitals and garbage collection -- will lead to pragmatic change within the group." But, Abbas, the current head of the PA (Palestinian Authority) faces great losses for his party as shown in this graphic from the Christian Science Monitor

If anyone thought there was a chance of peace in the Middle East, by efforts such as pulling Israeli's out of their homes in Gaza, a win for Hamas in the PA government should shake them out of their fantasy.

Such as Jimmy Carter seen here for a meeting at the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority president.

Jesus in the News - What's Real, What Isn't?

Atheist Luigi Cascioli says Jesus never existed in 'The Fable of Christ'

This week in Italy the existence of Jesus Christ is going on trial, no joking, it's for real. A Priest, Rev. Enrico Righi, faces a lawsuit by Luigi Cascioli, an atheist for 'deceiving people into thinking Jesus was an actual historical figure' and wants him to prove that Jesus Christ is real.

At the same time the press is reporting a rather unorthodox 'vision of Jesus' that one of America's foremost feminists, Naomi Wolf, says she recently had.

Also this week, after being released from prison last week and then re-arrested...the would-be assassin of Pope John Paul II ,Mehmet Ali Agca, is writing a new Bible according to his brother, who claims the Vatican acknowledges he is the 'messiah' of the Muslims...now, who believes that?

Remember? ...

On May 13, 1981 the pope was shot by would-be assassin Mehmet ali Agca while riding his car in St. Peter's Square in Rome, sending him to the hospital for 22 days.

In 1983 the Pope visits Agca after the shooting, who asked people to "pray for my brother (Agca), whom I have sincerely forgiven." The Pope had kept in touch with Agca's family over the years, having met his mother in 1987.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Abortion Showdown

Everyone knows San Francisco is a home to liberalism, yet one of the largest Pro-Life marches took place there over the weekend on the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Thousands carrying signs saying, "Women deserve better than abortion" marched almost silently through the streets while pro-abortion advocates, much smaller in numbers, were more vocal. According to the San Francisco Chronicle:
"Abortion rights advocates, concerned that the Bay Area movement has become too complacent, showed up en masse to protest the march...although easily outnumbered they were loud and confrontational. Many jeered and taunted the marchers, while others stood along the street, waved wire hangers and chanted slogans. One group wore sheets and gowns dipped in red paint to symbolize their image of back-alley abortions."

One demonstrator with the anti-war group Not in Our Name said, "As we come up against this Christian fascism that is condoned by our government, it is more important than ever for people to come into the streets and take a stand."

The bottom line questions on this issue are:

Is a fetus a baby?
Is it right to kill it?
Is it a right?

2006 high school students like those in the above picture are more pro-life than recent classes before them. Being able to see a fetus in the womb through greater technologly, suck it's thumb, etc., is answering the above questions for them. The positive images of life seem to be getting greater results than other images.

If you haven't heard my interview with Jill Stanek, former nurse, who after witnessing a baby born alive and discarded after it was aborted, she set out to see this practice stopped. Three years later she watched President Bush sign the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

Marc Morano, CNSNews Reporter Under Fire re Murtha

Marc Morano, Sr. Staff Writer for CNSNews, former producer/Man in Washington Reporter for Rush Limbaugh, and a regular contributor to Changing Worldviews radio, has come under fire for his article questioning the legitimacy of Murtha's Purple Hearts. Here is an excerpt from CBS News on this:

"The attack, reminiscent of the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth chargesagainst John Kerry, came in the form of an "investigative" story by CNSNews.comreporters Marc Morano and Randy Hall questioning the legitimacy of Murtha'sPurple Hearts. Cybercast News Service is a subsidiary of conservative media critic Brent Bozell's Media Research Center.

The news service was founded in 1998 as an alternative to allegedly liberally biased news services. It has a staff of 12 reporters in the U.S. and abroad who file stories for the Cybercast News Web site and for subscribers, like GOPUSA, who pay to put the content on their sites. Most staffers have conservative credentials, as well as some type of reporting background, and they claim to be reputable journalists catering to a conservative audience. Marc Morano, who wrote the article on Murtha, is a former producer for the Rush Limbaugh Show, and his bio touts a real coup: he was the first journalist to have his camera confiscated by the Clinton White House. Their reporters are credentialed to cover the U.S. Congress, the State Department, the Pentagon, the European Parliament and the Israeli Knesset. They say they haven't tried to get a "hard pass" for the White House lately, but can get access via day passes."

Here's Marc's Response:

"The Dean of the White House Press Corps, Helen Thomas, has assured me multiple times that until 1993, there had never been a TV camera seized in the history from a credentialed journalist at the White House. Thomas herself, personally marched me into the Clinton White Press office to demand an apology for taking my camera on September 21, 1993. I was on assignment for "Rush Limbaugh: The Television Show" at the time where I served as his onscreen "Our Man in Washington" correspondent/producer during the program's four year run from 1992-1996. NBC News's Andrea Mitchell reported on the camera confiscation on that evening's NBC Nightly News."

Marc will be on the show soon to tell us the whole story. So, stay tuned.

Transcript: Osama Bin Laden's Lastest Audio

It's been 13 months since we've heard from Osama Bin Laden. The CIA has verified that the audio played on the Arab television news network Al-Jazeera, is authentic.

Transcript of Osama Bin Laden statement on audio today, 1/19/06: (Hat tip: Steve Beren)

"I propose a long-term truce with the U.S. military. God has prevented us from lying and betraying. You can give us this truce so we can build Iraq and Afghanistan that you have destroyed.

"This will prevent the loss of millions of dollars, billions of dollars that go to corrupt businessmen in the United States. Our situation is getting better and better and your situation is getting worse and worse.

"But I wanted to talk to you because of the lies that have been given to you by your President Bush when he commented on the results of the opinion polls in your country that showed the majority was for the pull out of U.S. forces in Iraq.

"You [Bush] opposed this opinion by saying a pull out of U.S. forces would send the wrong message and that it is better to fight them in their land than they fight us in our land.

"I have an answer for this. I'm saying that the war in Iraq is lit up like crazy and the operations are estimated in our favor in Afghanistan and the number of dead and injured on your side is greater and greater, in addition to material losses.

"The result of the opinion polls are wise and Bush must follow it. Iraq has now become a point of attraction to all qualified people the mujahadeen who by the grace of God were able to infiltrate all the security measures that were taken by Coalition forces. And as proof to that: The bombings that you saw in many important capitals of the world.

"The reason why we didn't have any such an operation in the United States is not because of security difficulties; the operation will take place and you will see such operations by the grace of God and by the will of God.

"So you see how Bush was misleading people. The opinion polls are for the pull out and it's important that opinion polls say the people didn't want to fight the Muslims in their land and they didn't want the Muslims to fight them in their land.

"I propose a long-term truce that will give the two sides stability and security.

"And this is the most important, most diligent solution as a result of which there will be no losses."

See White House response - Press secretary Scott McClellan responded to bin Laden's truce offer..."We do not negotiate with terrorists. We put them out of business." Vice President Dick Cheney on FOX News (Cavuto) expressed the same.

Gay Marriage - Where Do Teachers Stand?

While pundits are debating whether "Brokeback Mountain" may herald acceptance of gay marriage, many taxpayers and teachers may be surprised to learn that almost a year ago the California Teacher's Association (CTA) endorsed AB19 supporting gay marriage. Bill Collins, Legislative Advocate for the largest teacher's organization in the state, wrote a letter to Assemblyman Mark Leno on February 18, 2005 in which he said, "The state has no legitimate reason to discriminate by prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying...use our endorsement of AB19 as may be helpful to its enactment."

The Capitol Resource Institute asked, "What is the CTA doing lobbying for gay marriage? Why are union dues being spent to support this venture? The CTA's own mission statement limits their involvement to issues affecting teachers as professionals. How is gay marriage an issue that professionally affects teachers?" In Collins' letter he states that the endorsement was "voted by some 800 teacher-delegates from throughout the state." But does this endorsement represent the majority of California teachers?

A Princeton poll conducted by Pew Research in July 2005 shows the majority of Americans continue to oppose gay marriage. As well, the majority of Californians oppose gay marriage. Five years ago over 60% voted for Prop. 22 which, "ensures ... that California will not permit same-sex partners to validly marry within the state. Without submitting the matter to the voters, the Legislature cannot change this absolute refusal to recognize marriages between persons of the same sex." More recent polls show Californians still want marriage to stay between one man and one woman.

Who Actually Decides the Golden Globe Award Winners?

"Walk the Line," story about country singers Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, won best movie in the musical/comedy category. And Joaquin Phoenix won best actor and Reese Witherspoon won best actress for their performances in the film. "Brokeback Mountain" came away with the top awards.

But...these choices do not necessarily represent America's picks...because the Golden Globes are awarded by 12 individuals from across the sea.

It all started in 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a small bunch of journalists who "predict" the Oscars each year. According the New York Times, the HFPA "functions like an exclusive club, admitting a maximum of five new members a year, though more often accepting only one. Any single member may object to a new member, making it extremely difficult to join."

Iran is Ranting - "Death to America!"

During prayer at a rally this week, thousands of Muslims in Iran chanted, "Death to America!, Death to America!" Huge banner signs are seen saying in english, "Down with America."

Reuters reports: "The United States and the European Union's three biggest powers said on Thursday that talks with Iran to curb its nuclear program were at an impasse and Tehran should be brought before the United Nations Security Council. Iran warned on Friday it would end voluntary cooperation with the U.N. over its nuclear work if it was referred, including halting snap checks of its nuclear sites. Cleric Ahmad Khatami said Iran would never succumb to mounting international pressure to abandon its nuclear work. 'This is a psychological war. This nation is not a nation to yield to such pressures,' Khatami told worshippers in a Friday prayers sermon at Tehran University. "The Europeans should avoid the language of threat. Using this language against the great Iranian nation is useless,' he said, to chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Britain".

Aired on Iran's Channel 1 and Al-'Alam TV on Jan. 9th, thanks to FrontPageMag, here is some of what Iranian leaders said in front of a backdrop showing the WorldTradeCenter and an American flag in flames, and the crowds response:

"We Express Our Hatred & Disgust to the Center of Evil, the Criminal America… "Death to America"

Crowd: "Israel is the enemy of Allah."

Man: "May the hands of the infidels be chopped off."

Crowd: "May the hands of the infidels be chopped off."

Man: "May the hands of the infidels be chopped off."

Crowd: "May the hands of the infidels be chopped off."

Man: "[Chopped off] from the land of the believers."

Crowd: "From the land of the believers."

Man: "The audience will now split into two groups: One group will settle the score with America, and the other will settle the score with Israel. This group now: Death to America!"

Crowd: "Death to America!"

Man: "Death to Israel!"

Crowd: "Death to Israel! Death to America!"

Man: "Death to America!"

Crowd: "Death to America!"

Man: "Death to America!"

Crowd: "Death to Israel! Death to America!" Death to Israel!"

Man: "All together now: Death to America! Death to Israel!"

Crowd: "Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel!"

Iran is the belly of the beast. Those who believe Iran is moving forward with nuclear development for peacful means are either smoking something or are just plan out of touch with reality.

In Loving Memory...of Spunky

Today has been a sad day. Spunky, the cutest and clearly in the running as the #1 most loved dog in the world, died this morning. He was almost 17 years old, but you would never have known it as you can see by his picture, except for the last couple of months.

We inherited him eight years ago from Duane's mother after she died in a tragic automobile accident. She was a widow and very attached to Spunky. When Duane called from Kansas and said he wanted to bring Spunky home with him my question was, "Does he shed much?" to which he said, "No, I don't think so." Well, just take a look at that hair! :) But, as all animal lovers will tell you, it didn't matter.

We have always had big dogs - golden retrievers, black labs, etc. because we raised boys. We've had several cats, too, but they all weighed more than Spunky, who was only 3 lbs. Yet that didn't stop him from quickly setting himself up as the 'alpha dog' in the family and 'protector of Sharon.' You should have seen him ward off the 'giants' from our property. He was fearless...and his name suited him well. Can we learn anything from animals? You bettcha. Without a doubt, Spunky will be very dearly missed.

Iran Resuming Nuclear Program Has Countries Very Concerned

The UN's nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, has confirmed that Iran has removed seals from one of their nuclear facilities and is set to begin research within hours. This ends a two-year suspension of research there, and could result in possible UN sanctions.

Germany described Iran's latest actions as "very, very ominous", which along with other Western countries fear Iran's nuclear program being used to make atomic bombs, despite Tehran's insistance that their efforts are for the production of energy only. Few believe that.

Russia, a member of the UN Security Council, suggested that Iran be allowed to conduct uranium enrichment in their country, to ensure its nuclear program was for peaceful purposes. The U.S. favored the plan, but Iran refused it.

Cuba, on the other hand, favors what they call Iran's 'peaceful program'. As quoted by Granma daily, Fidel Castro said on January 5, 2006...

"Iran, like any nation, has the right to produce atomic energy for peaceful purposes, and to have access to modern technology for this aim."
Israel, which said Iran was the No. 1 danger three years ago, has much reason for concern today. Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the death of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon would be a serious defeat for United States policy in the Middle East, that...
"On the one hand there is Iraq, and on the other hand Palestine and Lebanon, displaying the weakness and powerlessness of the U.S. and Zionism."
And Iran's hard-line president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he hoped for the death of Sharon. Earlier he called for 'wiping Israel off the map,' and said the holocaust was a myth.

These are times that try men's souls, for sure.

IBM Freezes Employee Pension Plan

How many generations has "Big Blue" been known as the company with "heart"? Well, it recently announced that it is discontinuing its employee pension plan. So, if you think that Social Security is your ticket to take care of you in your old age, better get some more eggs in your basket.

The good news about the economy, the DOW hitting over 11,000 first since before 9/11, is good, but you need to seriously look at your portfolio, or get one if you don't have one, because there are no guarantees.

A good place to start for some may be to simply read my guest, Cynthia Yates' book, Ditch the Diet and Budget. You can get more information and hear my interview with her here...

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Best & Worst of 2005 II

Now that the show has aired the cat's out of the bag on who we have chosen as our Person of the Year for 2005:

Changing Worldviews' Person of the Year for 2005 - Pope John Paul II For his attempt to heal the deep divisions between the Catholic Church and Judaism. He was the first Pope in history to visit the Holyland.

As well as our choice for the most ridiculous, unbelievable stories for the year. Duane was pretty passionate about his pick (hint: PETA & fishing) and mine, well it's what Wednesday's show is about this week. My interview with Dr. Warren Throckmorton on GLSEN's Little Black Book.

You'll have to listen to the show to hear all our picks for the Best & Worst of 2005, but here are just a couple more in writing:

In Media…

Best – #1 Fox News on the War on Christmas…John Gibson & Bill O’Reiley.

Worst - #1 has to be Making Cindy Sheehan a national icon through their coverage and endorsement of her campout at Crawford, TX against the President. There’s been so much coverage about this I don’t think it needs repeating.

In Entertainment…

Best – There were several good and important movies this year…but our #1 choice in entertainment for the Best of 2005 is… The Chronicles of Narnia, primarily because of it’s value to counter some of the potentially dangerous themes in fantasy movies, such as Harry Potter. Plus the fact that CS Lewis is one of my favorite writers.

Worst – King Kong was touted as being the best movie of all time, which of course caused us to go see it, but while the graphics were impressive, we both couldn’t see the merit of such claims. If it were 2004 our choice for worst would probably be Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, but this year, perhaps surprisingly to some…our choice is The Family Stone…the review snippets we saw and the introduction led us to believe we were in for a modern-day “It’s a Wonderful Life” but far from it! Diane Keeton’s swearing, blatant endorsement of promiscuity of her kids, the obvious endorsement of gay unions and adoption, that made one of the characters who tried to discuss the concern of effects on children look like an idiot…all make for our choice as the #1 worst movie of 2005.

Belafonte & Chavez vs. Bush

This is Harry Belafonte with Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, calling President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world." ABC News reports:

The American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
Belafonte led a delegation of Americans including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West that met the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday and attended his television and radio broadcast on Sunday.

"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people … support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast.

Michelle Malkin reminds us of the following from CNSNews and Ronald Radosh:
Celebrity activist Harry Belafonte referred to prominent African-American officials in the Bush administration as "black tyrants" at a weekend march, and he also compared the administration to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.

In June 2000, Belafonte was a featured speaker at a rally in Castro's Cuba, honoring the American Soviet spies, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.

In 1997, Belafonte was featured speaker at the 60th Anniversary celebration of the "Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade," at which he honored these self-proclaimed "premature anti-fascists" who served in the mid-1930s as Stalin's private Comintern army.

Speaking in October 1983 at a "World Peace Concert" run by East Germany's official Communist youth organization, Belafonte gave his blessings to the Soviet-sponsored "peace" campaign pushing unilateral Western disarmament, at a time when the Soviets were putting SS-20 missiles in East Germany.

To Harry Belafonte, Castro is a freedom fighter and Colin Powell and Condi Rice merely "house slaves." Ever the diplomat, Colin Powell responded to Belafonte's blast by calling the singer his "friend," and noting that the slave analogy was from another time and place and was simply "unfortunate." Secretary Powell should take to heart the simple adage, with friends like that...

All I can say is, selah.

Preview: The Battle For and Against Alito Begins

Judge Samuel Alito will begin the first day of his Senate Hearings at breakfast with the President, and then into, what some think will be, the lion's den.

Some think Samuel Alito will be confirmed with little incident.

Others say he faces a tough battle.

Some are working hard to see that he isn't confirmed, period.

Such as Gay activists who are pushing for gay-related questions at the Senate hearings,
and of course, NOW, the National Organization for Womenand Planned Parenthood of America.

But the majority of Americans favor his appointment.

And religious conservatives are rallying to his support, such as at Family Research Council's Justice Sunday III held yesterday.

WOMANTalk's contributing writer, Stacy Harp, did a great job covering the FRC event via live blogging in Philadelphia, including pictures like the one of protestors below,

Some young Yale students kicked off a nationwide campaign to organize law campuses against Alito, so far 20 schools have signed on. But the anti-Alito group doesn't speak for all the students at Yale.

However, a group of over 500 law professors are collectively standing against Alito's nomination.

And while Senator Ted Kennedy
is being loyal to his standard position against anything that is Bush-friendly, such as this conservative U.S. Supreme Court nominee, and New York's Charles Schumer warned that if Alito continuously refuses to answer questions on abortion, the odds of a filibuster would "absolutely" go up.filmaker, Dean Augustin, endorses Alito.

All of this by all of these, and thousands of other activists and organizations, basically fighting to persuade 12 Senators in their vote, on what, Senator Arlen Spector, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, called 'the most important thing next to the war.'

Jeb Bush Says Don't Dictate Darwin in Schools

Newsmax.com reported recently that Florida Gov. Jeb said "he did not think Darwin's theory of evolution needed to be part of the state's public school science standards."

"I think people have different points of view and they can be discussed in school. They don't need to be in the curriculum."

Judgements on Ariel Sharon's Condition

So much has already been said about Ariel Sharon's condition, speculating his replacement, what this means for Israel, and controversial statements such as Pat Roberson's, that I don't want to be redundant. MSNBC has covered the latest on Sharon's prognosis, some of his history on video and more here.

But there is one thing I'd like to say: though I was/am not happy at all with Sharon's position on the Gaza pull-out and willingness to divide up the land of Israel, and I likewise agree that God, in the Bible, does talk about His will for the land of Israel, having made a covenant with Abraham, the father of Judeo-Christian faith, giving him 'all the land,' it does no good, in my thinking, to be quick to judge the reasons for Sharon's condition. Unless God speaks specifically regarding a situation, our response should be one of charity. Our words should be guided by wisdom (knowing what to do with knowledge). The world needs to see more than just opinion, no matter how educated it may be.

What say you?
