GOOD NEWS AMERICA! Rachel's Challenge - Bringing Good out of Evil

I saw Rachel's father interview on Hannity and Colmes last week. What an inspiring man, talking about his inspiring daughter - Rachel.

Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her father and other family members have chosen to let good come out of this tragedy, speaking to young people all around the country, challenging them to follow Rachel's example to make a difference in their schools, in their world.

RachelsChallenge.com tells of "Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America - Rachel's Challenge."

If you've not visited their site yet I recommend it, and to especially recommend it to the young people in and around your live.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! New Congress VS. Bush on Iraq

My husband Duane did the show today along with Pete Russo, both veterans with strong opinions on the war in Iraq debate. With Congress’ position on Pres. Bush's new Iraq policy, Nancy Pelosi accused the President of rushing more troops into Iraq so Congress won’t cut funding, and telling him his new bi-partisan working group is unnecessary.

Where’s the promised cooperation?

Nancy Pelosi said,
"The president knows that because the troops are in harm's way, that we won't cut off the resources. That's why he's moving so quickly to put them in harm's way."

Sen. Joseph Biden, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said,
“I have reached the tentative conclusion that a significant portion of this administration, maybe, even including the vice president, believes Iraq is lost; They have no answer to deal with how badly they have screwed it up. I am not being facetious now. Therefore, the best thing to do is keep it from totally collapsing on your watch and hand it off to the next guy—literally, not figuratively."

Following Pres. Bush's State ot the Union address, Congress members worked hard to get a resolution passsed which seeks to halt the sending of 20,000 more troops into Iraq. It passed 12-9 in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Are We Becoming a Nanny State?

Well, in case you haven’t heard yet...you could go to jail in California for spanking your child if State Assemblywoman Sally Lieber (D) who is introducing a bill that will make it illegal for parents to spank their children, has her way. If passed it will make it a crime for anyone to spank children under the age of 3 punishable by up to a year in jail or $1,000 fine.

Lieber, the Bay Area Democrat legislator wants to make it a crime for anyone to spank young children, banning hitting, punching, smacking, kicking, slapping and spanking. She says,

"Under current law, parents can beat their children to a reasonable degree. I just think that that's plain wrong and we ought to ban any sort of physical attack on children who are not old enough to defend themselves…This bill is absolutely not big mother government coming in to tell parents what to do…Children that are 3-years-old or younger are really sitting ducks for physical punishment, and they're no match with the speed or size or force of an adult who's beating them… if you don’t hit a cat, you shouldn’t hit a kid. We have a society that has really become addicted to violence, and I think that training children at a very young age in that is absolutely the wrong thing to do."

Opponents say the government shouldn't tell adults how to be parents. California Republican Assembly member Michael Villines said,

"As a father of three, I'm afraid they're going to make me a felon. Child abuse is wrong period. But there is a balance, and the government doesn't need to get in the middle of it."

If the bill passes and is signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, it would make California the first in the nation to have a no-spanking law. There is speculation that he may sign it into law because his home country Austria has such a law.

We want to keep in mind there’s really two separate issues here...should a parent spank or not? and should the government outlaw spanking?

Whether you believe in spanking or not, do you believe it is the government’s role to make law concerning spanking? Should we criminalize spanking? That is the question surrounding Lieber's bill.

BTW - what happens to the child during the year the parent is in jail?

On the show I give statistics of Sweden which has had a 'no spanking' law since 1979, and of the U.S. which has no such law, which shows Sweden with higher rates in every one of the following forms than the U.S. ...except spanking, proving such laws do not work.

1. Threw things at
2. Pushed, grabbed, or shoved
3. Hit (spanked or slapped)
4. Kicked, bit, or hit with fist
5. Hit with an object
6. Beat up
7. Threatened with a weapon
8. Used a weapon
9. Very Severe Violence

HOT OFF THE SHOW! ProLife – for the Disabled

On Monday, the 34th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade Linda Shepherd told our audience about her infant daughter who was thrown unto the freeway following a violent car crash. Like in Terri Schiavo’s case, doctors told Linda her daughter was in a vegetative state and suggested she pull the plug. But she refused and today, 20-year-old Laura is living a joyful life, though disabled.

Linda also told about her disturbing encounter with Michael Schiavo at a press conference where he said he was Terri's family and the government had interfered with his family, his privacy and his wishes. When Linda said, "I'm the mother of a handicapped child. What about Terri's mother and father - weren't they her family too?" Schiavo answered in anger that Terri's parents had lost their rights to her when she married him.

Because of the Terri Schiavo case Linda said other disabled people with brain damage are now afraid for their lives. After all, Terri Schiavo was not dying until they quit feeding her. Terri Schiavo was issued an “Order of Execution” from Florida Judge George Greer which stopped the feeding of Terri by spoon, even disallowing ‘swallowing,’ which is a voluntary action.

False diagnosis of PVS happens up to 43% of the time. This is a frightening.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Cyber Terrorism

My guest Erick Stakelbeck, Terrorism Analyst, CBN News tells of fleets of computer savvy, Al-Qaeda cyber-hackers that are attempting to attack our financial infrastructures to steal information and cripple us economically; and Russia and China hacking into our computer systems as a form of electronic espionage.

President Bush keeps reminding us that failure is not an option in Iraq if Americans want to be safe at home. But there are some among us who still don't get it.

For example: On NBC's "Today Show, Sen. Barack Obama said, "We're not going to baby sit a civil war." Sen. Dick Durbin(D) is heralding the idea that "questions are now being asked of this administration that haven't been asked for almost four years."

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Athens was attacked by a rocket that police said was probably carried out by a domestic terror group.

And a video was posted on the Web that shows members of an Islamic insurgent group preparing and launching four rockets at a U.S. military base near Samarra, Iraq. The members of the militant group are wearing gas masks while filling the rockets with a black chemical, then taken into the field and fired.

Will Ted Kennedy try to stop this Memorial for the Pre-born again this year?

Picture by Peter Shinn of ProLifeNews.tv

This Sunday is Pro-Life Sunday

Fellow broadcasters at NPLR.net, Rob and Paul Schenck, will head up the 13th Annual National Memorial for the Pre-born and their Mothers and Fathers on Monday, January the 22nd in the U.S. Senate Dirksen building, which is on the corner of Constitution Avenue and First Street, NE, Washington DC. The event runs from 8:45 am - 10:30 am.

Evidently, some Senators, like Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, have filed complaints against the event in the past. In fact, last year Ted Kennedy tried to have the Memorial shut down, right in the middle of the service.

HOT OFF THE SHOW! Yale Choir Assaulted in SF

What's the real story? A Brawl or a Botched Investigation?

On New Years Eve members of the Yale's Bakers Dozen Choir which were touring the nation singing were assaulted, sending some to the hospital, and the SFPD is under fire for not arresting the suspects, taking pictures at the scene of the crime. And people are upset!

This choir member was kicked and kicked while on the ground and suffered his jaw broken in two.

This choir member suffered a major concussion.

See more pictures here.

To add insult to injury, one SFPD investigator told a parent that the choir members (victims) were to pay for their way back to SF to be questioned because, "They are affluent and can afford it.)

My sources in law enforcement tell me… Generally...

-In SF, on New Years Eve it is hectic; lots of calls come in for brawls; when police show up people scatter, especially underage drinkers, this includes witnesses.

-When suspects are identified they do a ‘cold show’ – a line-up on the street, then arrest

-Just because arrests were not made on the scene doesn’t mean can’t be arrested during the investigation

-Have to call for a camera to come to the scene;

-It doesn't look good that the investigators waited 10 days to interview the victims; no pics, sketching reporting

This story is not going away.

See lots of links on the story here.

New Things for the Center this Year...

With all the forecasting that is being done for the New Year, I want to take this opportunity to tell you about the new things we have planned for this year. To help reach more people and get the truth out on the issues, we are launching three pilot events in 2007...an Easter and Christmas luncheon just for women, and a Fall weekend conference for all of us, with a Support our Troops-9/11 Banquet.

Our fundraising coordinator is already working on an armed forces fly over as we give honor where honor is due, and so much more. We’ll have outstanding speakers at all the events; and I know you do not want to them.

We have a big vision for this year and we want you to be a part of it. If you’d like to be among the first to know the details, sign up for our email updates using the box on the sidebar, or send an email to info@changingworldviews.com to be added for announcements. We’ll need your help to get the word out, and to bring lots of people with you.

In addition to all the other good things that I believe will be happening this year (despite the unrest of our world) these events are going to be part of the GOOD things that happen in 2007 because of all that will be accomplished to shape public opinion and policy more...and lives. So watch for our first "You Can Change Your World" event this April.

Allies Back Pres. Bush & Speech on Iraq

Seattlepi.com reports: "President Bush's announcement of a boost in American troops in Iraq won quick support Thursday from U.S. allies as a crucial step toward stabilizing the country and battling terrorism.

The leaders of South Korea, Australia and Japan - all longtime supporters of the U.S.-led mission in Iraq - pledged continued political backing and material help to the beleaguered war effort.

'If America retreats in Iraq, then that has enormous consequences for the stability of the Middle East and it will also be an enormous boost to terrorism in our part of the world,' Australian Prime Minister John Howard said in Sydney."

The Full Text of President Bush's speech tonight.

Highlights via Drudge:

On the role of the Iraqis:

Only the Iraqis can end the sectarian violence and secure their people. And their government has put forward an aggressive plan to do it.

On securing Baghdad:

Our past efforts to secure Baghdad failed for two principal reasons: There were not enough Iraqi and American troops to secure neighborhoods that had been cleared of terrorists and insurgents. And there were too many restrictions on the troops we did have. Our military commanders reviewed the new Iraqi plan to ensure that it addressed these mistakes. They report that it does. They also report that this plan can work…and Prime Minister Maliki has pledged that political or sectarian interference will not be tolerated.

On what Iraq must do:

I have made it clear to the Prime Minister and Iraq’s other leaders that America’s commitment is not open-ended. If the Iraqi government does not follow through on its promises, it will lose the support of the American people – and it will lose the support of the Iraqi people. Now is the time to act. The Prime Minister understands this.

On protecting the American people:

The challenge playing out across the broader Middle East is more than a military conflict. It is the decisive ideological struggle of our time…In the long run, the most realistic way to protect the American people is to provide a hopeful alternative to the hateful ideology of the enemy – by advancing liberty across a troubled region.

On bringing our troops home:

[To]step back now would force a collapse of the Iraqi government…Such a scenario would result in our troops being forced to stay in Iraq even longer, and confront an enemy that is even more lethal. If we increase our support at this crucial moment, and help the Iraqis break the current cycle of violence, we can hasten the day our troops begin coming home.

“Embryos are Humans” Says U.S. Government Report

LifeSiteNews.com reports: A new report by the United States governments’ Domestic Policy Council admits that embryos are human beings; the only differences between embryos and other human beings, says the report, are accidental differences in levels of development.

“Embryos are humans in their earliest developmental stage,” writes the Council.

“We do not have to think that human embryos are exactly the same in all ways as older humans to believe that they are entitled to respect and protection. Each of us originated as a single-celled embryo, and from that moment have developed along a continuous biological trajectory throughout our existence. To speak of ‘an embryo’ is to designate a human being at a particular stage.”

The Domestic Policy Council, which coordinates the domestic policy-making process in the White House, and which is under the direction of President Bush, made these unequivocal statements about the human embryo in its report on stem-cell research entitled, “Advancing Stem Cell Science without Destroying Human Life.”

Media to Watch & to Contact

The media is one of the most powerful forces in a free society. However, far too often it gets away with biased reporting because readers do not call them on the carpet. If we don’t do it, who will?

Why not make it a point to contact the media on the issues both as letters to the editor and to hold them accountable whenever you read a biasd slant.

To help with this Capitol Advantage has a Media Guide that you can use to find and contact national and local media including:

Local Media – via ZIP Code Search

Individual Search - Editors, Reporters & Producers

Organization Search - Newspapers, TV, radio, etc

Is the mainstream media really liberal? As AIM (Accuracy in Media) points out, “According to The American Society of Newspaper Editors a 1999 study showed 78% of Americans said there is a news bias in the media…The public seems to be correct. According to another poll from the PEW Research Center conducted by the Princeton Review Research Associates in 2004, "about a third of national journalists (34%) and 23 % of local journalists describe themselves as liberals." A mere 7% of journalists described themselves as conservative.”

In addition to Accuracy in Media I also recommend NewsBusters and The Media Research Center as reliable resources for accurate information on the liberal reporting of the mainstream media.

MONDAY'S SHOW: David Brody, Capitol Hill correspondent took us inside the new democrat-controlled Congress on Monday – and we discussed who has the power, who are the Blue Dog Democrats and what is the new immigration coalition? Plus what should we make of the hiring of ‘faith gurus’ or advisors by democrat leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and 2008 Presidential hopefuls like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry? New Democrat controlled Congress opens with prayers and hallelujahs

In addition to the first democrat-controlled Congress in twelve years, and the first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, being sworn in to the 110th Congress last week, something else is new on the Hill – democrat politicians talking about and displaying their religion. And not just Nancy Pelosi.

The eldest U.S. Senator, 90 year old Virginia Democrat Robert Byrd, who after being sworn in by Vice President Dick Cheney for his ninth six-year term pumped his fist and yelled, “So help me God!” He also shouted “hallelujah!” and “praise Jesus!” in response to the Senate’s Chaplain’s opening prayer.

Keith Ellison, the first Muslim congressman took a ceremonial oath of office on the Quran in the presence of the new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The Democrat Congressman Minnesota borrowed Thomas Jefferson's personal copy of the Quran from the Library of Congress, one of over 1600 books from Jefferson’s library which contains books from all cultures, languages and literary type. Jefferson was not a Muslim.

Ellison who announced last month that he would be sworn in on a Quran rather than the Bible as has been the standard from the forming of the United States, said the fact that one of the nation's founding fathers owned a Quran shows that "religious differences are nothing to be afraid of." His mother agreed, but said she's a practicing Catholic who goes “to Mass every day."

In the meanwhile, former republican U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft spoke at Missouri Governor Matt Blunt’s annual prayer breakfast at the beginning of their new legislative session. Ashcroft told the gathered bipartisan legislators, judges and public officials to not be afraid to pray; that religion should be in the public square, but not forced on anyone. He said, "It's against my religion to impose my religion, but I don't think it's against my religion to expose my religion." Hear Audio of Ashcroft Speech:
Former US Attorney General John Ashcroft speech at Governor's Prayer Breakfast (22:00 MP3)

Democrats and liberals who highly criticized President Bush for the open expression of his faith, have all of a sudden decided it’s a good thing. But dare I say, only after being advised by their ‘faith counselors’ to do so, if they want to win the votes of the Blue Dog democrats and evangelicals.

I’ve written more about this – See Democrats Hire ‘faith advisors’ to win in 2008.

And you can hear even more about this in my interview with David Brody, Capitol Hill correspondent for CBN, and WOMANTalk’s “What’s Ahead for 2007” show.

Hear interview with CBN’s David Brody here on 1/8/07. (See Broadcast Archives)

Democrats Hire "faith advisors" to win in 2008

In addition to her recasting herself as a girl from Baltimore rather than from San Francisco with all its 'values' and a grandma, the newly elected Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wants us all to know she is religious. She received Communion in a very public display of her Catholicism, this past week amidst all the swearing in ceremonies.

Burns Strider heads religious outreach for the House Democratic Caucus, which was created by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2005 when Democratic strategists recognized that their party lost ground in the previous election.

Strider, one of the Democratic Party’s leading strategists on winning over evangelicals and values-driven voters, (did you know there were strategists for such things?) has been hired by Hillary Clinton's as her new 'faith guru' for her 2008 presidential bid. See lots more on Hillary here.

John Kerry who is also considering a run for the 2008 Democratic nomination, has been active in this arena, too. In September, he gave a speech on “service and faith” at the conservative Pepperdine University. And he has recruited Shaun Casey, associate professor of Christian Ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary, to advise him on religious outreach. During the 2004 presidential election Kerry hired someone to direct his 'religious outreach', but was someone who Catholic League President William Donahue, called an "ultra-leftist who consorts with anti-Catholic bigots.”

What a switch, at least for the top contenders for the democrat nomination -- to have 'faith advisers' specializing in religious outreach -- from 2004 when democrat candidates didn't see the value of reaching out to values-voters.

Will voters get it that candidates have a new strategy to use religion to get elected? Will they be able to discern the real from the fake? The genuine expressions from the phony?

This is a TOP WATCH.

WOMANTalk Launches new Blog

With all the attention, sincere or not, given to religion and faith by some of the 2008 Presidential candidates, and others who ran in last November's election, we plan to address this issue which I believe is going to be a big factor in the 2008 election. Some have hired 'faith advisors' such as John Kerry and Hillary Clinton to win the votes of evangelicals. How will you be able to tell who is sincere or not? Who is/will be using religion? We need discernment so we won't be fooled by the language that will be used.

We will talk more about this on our Jan. 12th WOMANTalk edition of the show...What's Ahead for 2007, as well as what may be ahead in the Middle East and Globally.

To address this issue more specifically we've launched a new blog, WOMANTalk Mediations, as part of our website E-Zine at womantalkmeditations.blogspot.com to give daily bits of truth and wisdom that will address the complex personal and world issues of today.

We'd love you to make us a part of your morning reads along with your cup or coffee, tea or cocoa.

Please help spread the word about our new site. Thanks!

HOT OFF THE SHOW: Intelligent Design & Darwin

Today's show is my interview with Samuel Alibrando, author of “Nature Never Stops Talking”, about how evolution theory is taught in schools but the ‘theory’ of Creation or Intelligent Design cannot be taught. What is the reason for this resistance? And since President George W. Bush endorsed ID for schools the debate has increased on whether this is a separation of church and state issue. Is it?

As Dr. Benjamin Wiker said, “Nearly a century and a half has passed since the publication of Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species. Evolution has been taught as an undeniable fact in high school textbooks for well over a half century.” TotheSource admonishes, “People of faith should not allow themselves to be relogated to an anti-science position for questioning Darwin. Questioning the validity of theories is what science is supposed to do.”

For those interested, I’ve started a new blog, WOMANTalk Meditations, and we are talking about the beginning of life this month. Let me know what you think.
