California's State Assembly passed AB 849 today, a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, by a 41-35 vote. Last week the State Senate passed it, and now it's on to Governor Schwarzenegger, who is on record saying he would have no problem approving it if it is the will of the people of California. Clearly, with well over 60% of Californians voting for Prop 22 to keep marriage between one man and one woman, it is NOT the will of the people. We will have to see if the Governor honors that or chooses to go with the state legislature.
Karen England of the Capitol Resource Institute said today, "The legislature, by callously disregarding their constituents, are proving that they are more concerned about embracing a group of adults, identified only by their sexual behavior, than promoting healthy families for the sake of our children...The governor is the last hope of the people because the legislature has completely disregarded their votes to pass Prop 22 and also their urgent pleas which helped to defeat AB 19. The behavior of the California legislature today should be a clear signal to the voters that they must pass a constitutional amendment next year to protect marriage once and for all."You can TAKE ACTION by contacting Govenor Schwarzenegger HERE.
