My husband Duane did the show today along with Pete Russo, both veterans with strong opinions on the war in Iraq debate. With Congress’ position on Pres. Bush's new Iraq policy, Nancy Pelosi accused the President of rushing more troops into Iraq so Congress won’t cut funding, and telling him his new bi-partisan working group is unnecessary.
Where’s the promised cooperation?
Nancy Pelosi said,
"The president knows that because the troops are in harm's way, that we won't cut off the resources. That's why he's moving so quickly to put them in harm's way."
Sen. Joseph Biden, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said,
“I have reached the tentative conclusion that a significant portion of this administration, maybe, even including the vice president, believes Iraq is lost; They have no answer to deal with how badly they have screwed it up. I am not being facetious now. Therefore, the best thing to do is keep it from totally collapsing on your watch and hand it off to the next guy—literally, not figuratively."
Following Pres. Bush's State ot the Union address, Congress members worked hard to get a resolution passsed which seeks to halt the sending of 20,000 more troops into Iraq. It passed 12-9 in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
