Gunman Shoots Six at Ted Haggard's former Church

Channel 7 News in Denver, Colorado reports:

"Authorities said a church member was shot to death and four others were injured after a gunman opened fire outside the New Life Church in Colorado Springs as Sunday services were wrapping up.

The gunman was shot by a church security officer and was found dead when police arrived on the scene, said Colorado Springs Police Chief Richard Myers.

Police did not release the name of the officer but said he "probably saved many lives today."

The gunman shot five other people in the parking lot of the church, Myers said. One of them was found dead when police arrived.

Four others were rushed to area hospitals and were said to have life-threatening injuries.

The church went into lockdown and every church in Colorado Springs went into high alert.

Witnesses said the shooter was dressed in black and was carrying a high-powered rifle.

Earlier today a gunman shot four staff members of YWAM. See story here.
