
Sacramento Bee: The state police chiefs association warned Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders in a letter today that the governor's budget-cutting proposals for prisons and parole present "dangers" that are "exceptionally severe."
California Police Chiefs Association President Jerry Dyer specifically cited the governor's plan to eliminate parole for non-serious, non-violent, non-sex offenders, which would squash local law enforcement's ability to search them without warrants.
"In other words, they will be released from any further oversight and law enforcement will have no way of knowing the location of these criminals, no way of monitoring their activities, and no way of conducting parole searches, or drug testing," said the letter from Dyer, who also is the Fresno police chief.
