HOT OFF THE SHOW! There Shall be No Religious Test

How surprised were you that President Bush went ahead and took advantage of the Congress Recess to install John Bolton as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations? He said, "This post is too important to leave vacant any longer, especially during a war and a vital debate about U.N. reform."

Meanwhile, things are gearing up for confirmation hearings to begin on September 6th for John Roberts as Justice to the Supreme Court. One of the things I discussed with my guest today on the show, Tim Ewing, Publisher of Rare Jewel Magazine, was the 'legality' of questioning Roberts about his positions on the issues as they relate to his Catholicism. Tim reminded us that the Constitution says, "there shall be no religious test" for such appointments.

FOX News anchor Martha McCallum asked Judge Bork if it was fair game for Democrats to question Judge Roberts about how his religion would affect his decisions on the Court. Judge Bork said, "The question is not about his religion. The question really is, will he interpret the Constitution honestly?" Why should his religion be of concern to the liberals? The answer, of course, is obvious, because they know the position his religion takes on the issues, which they are scared to death of losing ground on.
