The Senate passed a bill last week to protect the Mt. Soledad Cross that would place war memorial under federal control. The legislation now goes to the president, who has pledged to sign it into law.
The memorial came under attack again by the ACLU because of the 29-foot-tall cross that commemorates fallen soldiers. The ACLU has fought this for over 15 years.
