UPDATE: Chaplain Ends Hunger Strike

Navy Chaplain Klingenschmitt ended his 18 day fast today after the Navy agreed to let him wear his uniform while 'praying in Jesus name' in public.

His protest was about...

"I am a Navy chaplain being fired because I pray in Jesus' name," says an Episcopal priest who is continuing his hunger strike over Naval policy which bans him from praying in Jesus' name. Lt. Gordon James Klingenschmitt has gone without food for two weeks now, and says he will not eat until President Bush acts via an executive order to allow chaplains the freedom to pray and preach according to their faith.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt says that since his story made national news the Navy has renewed his contract, but that he still cannot pray in Jesus' name in public, in uniform, which by the way bears a cross.
